Organising your wardrobe according to the principles of slow fashion
First, what is Slow Fashion???
For the last years we see the new wave of change going through the fashion industry showing the impact that we have on the planet, people, animals...
Slow Fashion is an awareness and approach to fashion, which considers the processes and resources required to make clothing, particularly focusing on sustainability. It involves buying better-quality garments that will last for longer and values fair treatment of people, animals and the planet.
It opposes overconsumption and impulsive buying. The movement convinces it is worth buying sensibly as benefits are numerous: saved money and time, environment protection, the opportunity to discover your own style and finally, a clutter-free wardrobe.
Slow Fashion opposes Fast Fashion model that started around 20 years ago. Sustainability is a MUST nowadays since we can see the implications of big Fast Fashion brands burning down tonnes and tonnes of unsold garments each season.
Economy Every Way
By shopping sensibly, choosing clothes that are timeless and made from natural materials we save time and money. One good-quality shirt is probably three-times more expensive than one of a poor-quality and it certainly lasts longer. Synthetic fabrics get battered more easily and look unaesthetic shortly after buying it. Additionally, classy timeless elegant garments can serve us for several years or even can be given to our children and grandchildren . The idea of timelessness guides our designers while creating each collection for Amelie et Sophie.
Characteristics of a Slow Fashion brand
- Made from high quality, sustainable materials
- Locally sourced, produced and sold garments
- Few, specific styles per collection, which are released twice or maximum three times per year.
- Sold in smaller stores rather than huge chain enterprises
- Having a transparent production system
Quality above all
Neither adults nor children do really need to have tonnes of clothes. We buy a lot of garments, but they are most often poor quality items. It is definitely better to buy less but good quality clothing. Such clothes are less likely to get worn out and they do not lose their original shape after the first wash. We feel better in natural materials like cotton, wool or silk. Clothes made out of these fabrics are resistant to stretch, they do not sensitise and are breathable. Most important factors for childrenswear. Therefore, Amelie et Sophie chooses only carefully selected, European-made fabrics that allow children to feel comfortable throughout the day. Each design goes through countless tests on the playground, at school or during outdoor activities by the two most reliable experts - best friends: Amelie and Sophie. Our designers know that even the most beautiful dress will never become the most favourite one if a child does not feel comfortable wearing it.
Having less clothes, but of high quality has one more advantage - it helps to keep your wardrobe tidy. Those are good news for the mothers of small fashionistas who love to choose their outfits by themselves. Every mother observes the first attempts of her child to choose their own stylish ensemble. Having less clothes, only those that are classy and timeless, will make it easier to create nice sets. Moreover, it will surely ease morning fashion negotiations with your child:)
